Metal Braces in Orlando, FL

What Are Metal Braces?

Metal braces are a traditional method of orthodontic treatment that are custom-fitted to your mouth to improve your smile and correct crooked, over-crowded, or misaligned teeth. They can also correct malocclusion and gaps between teeth. Metal braces consist of brackets and wires. The brackets are affixed to each tooth with glue and connected by the wires. As the wires are tightened, your teeth are slowly and gently shifted into proper alignment. The wires are held in place with elastic bands.

Other Types of Braces to Consider

The type of braces you choose may depend on the extent of your treatment, your personalized treatment plan, length of your treatment, age, overall dental and oral health, level of commitment to treatment, budget, and personal preferences. We offer a few other different types of braces that you can consider for your orthodontic care:

  • Ceramic Braces – Ceramic braces have tooth-colored brackets. This helps them blend in with your teeth so they are less obvious or noticeable. You can also get colored ceramic braces.
  • Invisalign Aligners – Invisalign aligners are clear, flexible aligners that fit over your top and bottom teeth separately. They are custom-designed for your treatment plan and to fit comfortably in your mouth. You will switch out your aligners for the next pair in your treatment plan every four to six weeks. They gently shift and align your teeth in the same way as traditional metal braces, but they are less noticeable and can be removed. You should wear your aligners for at least 22 hours each day, but you can remove them to eat, drink, and maintain your oral hygiene routine.
  • WildSmiles – WildSmiles braces are custom brackets that are fun, unique, and creative. They are the same as traditional metal braces, but you can choose fun shapes to attach to your brackets, such as flowers, hearts, stars, or Disney shapes.

Advantages of Metal Braces

Traditional metal braces are often the best choice for complex or difficult cases when orthodontists are considering clear braces vs metal. They allow our team to carefully and precisely plan every tooth’s movement. They work quickly and effectively, and advances in orthodontic care mean metal braces are more comfortable than ever. They are also often more affordable than other types of orthodontic treatment. In some cases, your treatment plan may be shortened by using metal braces rather than another method of orthodontic treatment, and they can help you avoid complications or more lengthy dental treatment. Metal braces are also tougher and more durable than ceramic braces.

Preparing for the Cost of Metal Braces

The cost of metal braces depends on the extent and length of your treatment plan. At Central Florida Orthodontic Specialists, we believe everyone in our community deserves access to safe, reliable, and affordable dental care. We periodically offer special offers and discounts and will work with you to figure out a payment plan that fits your budget. We offer free initial consultations that include an examination, x-rays, and information about recommended treatment options. We also offer flexible payment plans and low monthly payments. We also accept CareCredit if you need to finance the cost of braces. We accept most major insurance plans and provide a cash discount option.

Caring for & Maintaining Metal Braces

You should maintain a committed oral hygiene routine with braces in order to prevent plaque, tartar, bacteria, and food from being trapped under your wires or brackets. If you don’t practice great daily oral hygiene, you are at risk of tooth decay, dental cavities, bad breath, infection, gum disease, and tooth loss. Complications with the health of your teeth can delay your orthodontic treatment, making it take longer than it needs to. We recommend following these tips for caring for and maintaining your braces:

  • Remove all rubber bands from your braces before brushing or flossing.
  • Brush your teeth twice per day or after each meal.
  • Floss your teeth daily before you brush.
  • Use fluoridated toothpaste or mouthwash each day.
  • Use antibacterial or antiseptic mouthwash to reduce your risk of cavities, tooth decay, bad breath, and gum disease.
  • Consider using an interdental toothbrush to ensure everything is cleaned from your wires and brackets.
  • Visit us regularly for scheduled check-ups and evaluations.
  • Contact us if you experience any discomfort or change in your dental or oral health.
